Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Job Description: As an SDET Engineer, you will develop test capabilities and design/architect automation frameworks into products that can help us giving better customer experience to millions of people who stream Live, do Video-On-Demand, Recorded and Offline content on hundreds of different devices. Customer Experience is of paramount importance to us -- it should be for you as well.

Who does the SDET work with?

SDET engineers work alongside with the core development team and Systems Integration in Test engineers. We work with some of the most talented software engineers, project managers, delivery owners, network engineers, and a whole host of technically adept people within Comcast. You will have the opportunity to impact VIPER products from concept to delivery.

What are some interesting problems you’ll be working on?

Comcast delivers an enormous amount of content--over 15 years of contiguous On-Demand content, and thousands of linear channels--to millions of users. The challenges involved in packaging and delivering that content are manifest, and they all impact the customer experience. We are driving the bleeding edge in Adaptive Bitrate Video Playback, and you’ll be working on products that millions of users count on every day.

Skills & Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in a mature software development organization
  • Familiarity with the full lifecycle of Dev and QA Engineering support for targeted technology stacks {Java / J2EE / Golang and Web Technologies, UNIX server-side tech} -- note that candidate only requires background in ONE of the stacks
  • Should be having good hands on development experience in Java / Python / GoLang – Design and Architecture inclusive – the ideal candidate shall be writing code for complex problems as part of day to day activities apart from design and architecture level assignments
  • Significant experience in two of the following categories:
  • Deployment Automation & Containerization (Puppet, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Configuration Management and Build Automation
  • Developed End to End Orchestrated Test automation frameworks
  • Large-Scale Systems Integration & Automation o Experience with a variety of scripting languages including Python and Javascript
  • Experience with web application development including dynamic HTML, CSS, and JS integration
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration Development Lifecycles and the specific Development and Testing challenges inherent to that approach o Good exposure to Unix operating systems
  • Good communicator and able to clearly articulate complex issues and technologies
  • Willing to take ownership of problems and see them through to resolution
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced agile environment. Requirements change quickly, and our team needs to constantly adapt to moving targets.
  • Able to mentor people, evolve as a technical leader who can help the team unblock from various complex technical roadblocks

Core Responsibilities:

• Automate and test solutions to a wide range of difficult applications, problems or procedures.

• Define and manage processes to facilitate user acceptance testing events, including demos, test execution and defect management.

• Provide input into end user and production support processes based on testing results.

• Monitor bugs and issues reported via production support to continuously improve testing processes.

• Create and maintain project deliverables to ensure test plans, scripts, acceptance criteria, results, defect logs, etc. are thoroughly and consistently documented using standard templates and centralized repository.

• Interpret internal/external business issues and recommend complete solutions based on best practices and proven technologies.

• Work with other members of cross-functional teams, third party vendors, and company product managers and marketing teams to deliver quality products in a timely fashion that meet defined requirements.

• Be diligent about recording/documenting development, testing and QA activities and tasks in Jira or other tools. • Ensure that project requests are properly accepted into the DevOps engineering team, worked on in a timely and efficient manner, are of high quality, and smoothly going through the DevOps life cycle – continuous innovation, feedback, and improvement.

• Deploy new systems and software including appropriate testing to ensure successful deployment. Determine the necessary test coverage and plans for deployment strategy.
