Business Unit:

Summary:

Comcast's Corporate Communication team creates the communications strategies that support the businesses of this Fortune 50 Company. The Director of Government Communications will support all communications activities and events that relate to Comcast's position on legislative, regulatory and other policy issues, and the corporate reputation of the company in Washington, D.C.

Job Responsibilities:

- Manage communications initiatives and events designed to support and promote Comcast's position on legislative, regulatory, and policy issues.

- Write and edit strategic documents and develop communications plans and materials press releases, creative media pitches, executive scripts and briefing memos for company-sponsored events related to legislation, regulation, policy and corporate reputation.

- Create communications materials for presentation to senior leadership and the public regarding Comcast's position on policy issues.

- Create, execute and manage events ranging from small dinners of 20 people to large receptions of 500+ attendees to film premieres and large scale events that reinforce Comcast's message in Washington, DC. This includes developing communications materials and event timelines, managing the staff and team onsite, coordinating with VIPs and senior management, and handling event logistics, including before and after the event.

- Work with Communications team, External Affairs, and Government Affairs Departments, along with senior management to develop and implement communications tools, both internal and external, to raise awareness of Comcast's position on public policy issues, and how the company's position helps it to connect with its audiences and stakeholders.

- Use appropriate combination of technology and varying communications media, including press releases, blog posts, infographics, and other media to reach both internal and external audiences. Ensure messages are appropriately written for Comcast's diverse employee and community populations.

- Develops metrics to assess the effectiveness and impact of communications initiatives and tools.

- Serves as liaison with PR agencies, news agencies, event organizers, to ensure project goals are met and timetable/budget parameters are kept.

- Provide support for any communications projects that are developed.

- Work closely with other team members, supervise interns.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Approves fact sheets, news releases, photographs, scripts, motion pictures, or audio recordings to media representatives and other persons who may be interested in learning about or publicizing company's activities or message.

- Promotes goodwill through such publicity efforts as speeches, exhibits, films, tours, and question/answer sessions.

- Represents, coordinates, and supervises public relations activities that facilitate communication of the organization's message to internal and external publics.

- Delegates activities/projects among junior staff and the team to ensure timely results; monitors progress and provides guidance as appropriate.

- Serves as liaison with PR agencies, news agencies, event organizers, to ensure project goals are met and timetable/budget parameters are kept.

- Writes/edits significant internal and external communications pieces including management speeches and parts of annual reports.

- Focuses direction and efforts on understanding what audience is to be reached and with what message.

- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

- Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate to appropriate audiences, both internal and external.

- Organizational savvy and ability to interact with team members, senior leadership, media, and vendors.

- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant communications experience. Generally requires 12+ years of experience.

- Experience from political campaigns, Capitol Hill, and/or Public Relations firm is highly desired.

- Event management experience- strong experience managing public and private events with internal and external VIPs is essential.

- Experience in developing proactive, creative media relations campaigns and events.

- Issues management experience and an ability to manage crises on off-hours.

- Experience working with the print, broadcast, digital and social media and with managing communications across external and internal audiences is key.

- Knowledge of political landscape and policy developments.

- A savvy, smart, efficient, fast-working, detail-oriented creative leader with good intuition for media opportunities and issues.

- Self-starter who thinks strategically and can handle multiple tasks simultaneously with efficiency and effectiveness.

- Keen public relations intuition, strong interpersonal skills, and strong presentation skills.

- Excellent verbal communications and interpersonal skills.

- Excellent writer who can meet tight deadlines.

- A 24/7 professional capable of juggling projects at night and/or on weekends.

- Open to travel on occasion.

- Bachelor's degree required; business, communications or journalism discipline preferred.
